ABOUT BESTIA BOX PAZIN

THE STORY OF THE GUBEC GUITAR PEDAL THAT STARTED IN A SMALL WORKPLACE IN PAZIN.

ORIGIN

The Gubec guitar pedal began as a personal quest. After 25+ years of playing electric guitar, I had tried countless high-gain pedals and set out to build one that had everything I was looking for. It was designed to capture the nuances of different amplifiers while delivering the aggression and flexibility I needed.

KNOWLEDGE

My approach wasn't just trial and error—I immersed myself in the study of music production, equalization, and amplifier design. I learned how different amplifiers shape their frequency spectrums: for example, classic Fenders scoop the mids around 500 Hz, while vintage Marshalls cut closer to 1 kHz, despite using nearly identical tone control circuits. I also analyzed many high-gain pedal schematics I found online, simulating and testing them in Qucs before moving to hardware experiments.

VALUES

The pedal's name, Gubec, pays tribute to Matija Gubec, a 16th-century peasant revolutionary who led the Croatian–Slovene Peasant Revolt. I started developing this pedal during the 450th anniversary of the revolt, and the name perfectly embodies its spirit—bold, defiant, and deeply rooted in history.

DEVELOPMENT

The development process was long and full of trial and error. I tested countless prototypes, always refining the sound. I brought my pedal to friends, plugging it into their different amplifiers and listening carefully to their feedback. Each suggestion shaped the final design, making the Gubec not just my creation, but a collaborative tool built to cover a wide range of tones.

Today, the Gubec pedal stands as the culmination of years of playing, studying, designing, and listening. It's a high-gain pedal born from passion, history, and a relentless pursuit of sound.
